The Doctor (his given name is never said) is a centuries-old alien Timelord with (usually) human companions, who travel for adventures anywhere in space and time. Since the global franchise is approaching its sixtieth anniversary and can’t keep the same actor playing the lead, in a brilliant move the BBC announced that Timelords “regenerate” when there is mortal damage to the body or extreme old age.
